The second trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse was released on Thursday. In the highly-anticipated sequel, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) and Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young mutants to save mankind from their most powerful nemesis yet, Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac), the first-ever mutant. It’s an all-out war in the film’s newest preview, which shows the planet on the brink of destruction. And of course, there are many cool mutant powers on display. In addition to Lawrence, McAvoy and Isaac, the superhero movie’s all-star cast also includes Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Evan Peters and Tye Sheridan.
X-Men: Apocalypse is the conclusion of a trilogy that started with 2011’s X-Men: First Class, and continued in 2014 with X-Men: Days of Future Past. It’s also the ninth movie in Marvel’s X-Men universe, coming on the heels of last month’s R-rated spinoff movie Deadpool, featuring Ryan Reynolds as a lesser known character. That movie exceeded all expectations to become the highest grossing entry in the entire X-Men cannon.
